GLP-1

Are glp-1’s the best solution for weight loss? With all health questions, that depends. There is a place for ozempic and other similar drugs, but not without a full understanding of how they change and impact your body.

I’ve learned over the years that the scale is not our friend. Our mental well being is in for a battle if we decide the scale will tell us how we feel each day. Unfortunately this is a driving factor for many people trying to lose weight. They step on the scale, it went up a couple pounds or it hasn’t moved in a week and they fell like a failure. Then they binge or get off their plan and give in to the scale.

Any fitness/nutritional professional with a good education will tell you a lower number of the scale is not the complete picture of your health or fitness success. In fact, most of us wish clients would throw away their scales or at best put them in the back of the closet to be visited someday in the future.

GLP-1s do help you shed weight and fat, but they also impact your ability to build and maintain muscle. Muscle is critical to overall health, wellness and maintaining a body that may weigh more, but looks better. GLP-1s have been the sold as the miracle drug for weight loss. Social media does not help with providing the right education on GLP-1s. There is a place for GLP-1s, but fully understanding the impacts, limitations and lifelong dependency is critical. If your Dr. is not providing all the education, be cautious.

I’ll add that GLP-1s can be used successfully for those in high risk categories, but dropping weight too quickly does create other problems. Our bodies respond to slow weight gain or weight loss better than quick loss or gain.
